I dreamt about various lifestyle business ideas and had many “lifestyle jobs”. Some of the jobs I had included lifeguard, martial arts instructor, trampolining instructor, HGV driver and even stuntman. But none of them actually lived up to the lifestyle business ideas I had which would give me the life of my dreams.
I had an itch I couldn’t scratch in all of these jobs. I knew deep down there had to be something better. One day I was looking for an eBay strategy to help me ditch a 9 to 5 job. I found an ebook and bought it. The actual strategy is shared in this article “How to build a profitable ebay business“, but that’s besides the point. The idea of downloadable products on the internet and automated payment lit a lightbulb in my head which wouldn’t go out!
A ‘Job’ You Own
The eBay model I share above involved buying things from eBay which were massively under priced and then re-selling them for a profit. It worked too and I bought and sold many items using this strategy. But it was a limited business model and a time heavy one at that!
I was spending my time searching eBay and finding items which were badly listed or misspelled. I would re-list them with a far better listing, a low starting bid and an improved title, description and pictures. On pretty much every occasion I made a profit. The only time I broke even was when I had bought an item which was a bit more scruffy than was listed. In order to be completely honest I listed the marks on the item in my description (a berghaus rucksak as I remember) and because of this I didn’t make a profit.
Anyway, I digress! Long story short (too late!), I found a business model which let me earn an extra income, but which couldn’t really be described as a winning strategy. I had found a job that I owned! It burned out eventually because I had no passion for it and it was hard work. I knew there was something better!

After the eBay business idea I was compelled to copy the idea of the downloadable ebook from which I had learned the eBay strategy in the first place. I created a couple of my own ebooks and realised the main problem was with marketing. So, I put myself on a few marketing courses to learn how to sell them. I soon discovered what would eventually lead me to the ultimate lifestyle business model – affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing is a business model which shares revenue for promoting other people’s products. With certain products, you can earn up to 50% of the selling price of an item you don’t own or touch. When you add in automated and globally scalable sales, you’ve the basis for the perfect lifestyle business model. Lifestyle business ideas don’t come any better, or so I thought!
I abandoned my own ebooks because there were far better products available for me to promote. I had spent a lot of time creating them, but it was going to be a waste of time promoting them, when there was a bigger market for online courses which offered more value than I could create.

I struggled with affiliate marketing for some time. There were so many avenues to go down, it was a minefield and I didn’t know what I was doing. I liked the idea of a recurring income for selling things online. But my marketing wasn’t getting me enough sales to make it a viable business.
