I was of course massively sceptical, since none of the other courses I had taken lived up to their promises. But this one proved to offer something different. I went to my first meet-up not knowing what to expect. I was so burned out and sceptical I was half expecting it to be a no show! But I was pleasantly surprised and found actual people behind this business!
Lifestyle Business For Sale
Before I found the business model of affiliate marketing I was working online buying and selling from eBay. I was convinced that the internet had the answers to a lifestyle business which offered time and financial freedom. But my eBay business seemed far from this model. It was a time heavy business and there wasn’t much automation involved in it. Although I was able to reach a global audience by listing items on eBay, I wasn’t able to sell them automatically. I had to answer questions from potential buyers and physically post items.
I later found a business model known as affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing lets anyone promote and sell other people’s products online. They get the credit for the sale through their own unique affiliate link. When someone buys something through your link, you receive a commission based on that sale. This business model offered what I thought had far more potential than what I was doing on eBay.
My Story
I didn’t know much about affiliate marketing when I started with it. I just threw myself into it and built several websites in the hope of it working. Much of my efforts were wasted apart from the information it gave me – don’t do that! There’s so many ways to do affiliate marketing that it’s a very difficult business to navigate alone. I needed help and I didn’t have anyone to ask. All the so called guru’s online just wanted my money!
But eventually I had to take some action. My situation was getting pretty desperate. I was working as a stunt performer in the UK for several years. Most of the time this meant waiting by the phone and praying for it to ring! I took many part time jobs in between and by the time I got to my late 30’s this routine was beginning to take its toll.
I lost confidence in what I was doing and was desperate for an answer. The internet seemed to offer the best solution to someone like me.
It took me a huge amount of searching and I took many online courses before I found the one I recommend. Many of the courses I took taught different approaches. The first ones taught website building and getting traffic organically. Let me tell you this is a huge challenge. There are far better ways than building a blog and writing, although this can still work; hence why I’m writing (and you’re reading) this article.
Lifestyle Business Models
There’s many different business models too. The idea of a lifestyle business model for me was to create something which would work for me, even when I wasn’t working. This means automation. If you’re tied to your laptop all day and night, that’s not a lifestyle business. On the other hand, you still need to build your business before it starts working for you. This takes time and effort. But the key is to choose a business model which uses automation and the ability to scale up to a global audience.
Not all affiliate business models are alike. For example, choosing products to sell from Amazon, like books was what I used to do initially. I later realised that I could write forever and still only make a pittance with this strategy. Why? :
- Writing blogs is slow and often your content will never get found
- Amazon products typically offer 3-11% commission
- This isn’t a very scalable type of business model because you need to generate sales for free
I needed something better than this and later learned about the power of residual commissions and digital products. Digital products don’t need to be manufactured and posted once they are created. They are simply downloaded or accessed over the internet for free! This makes them some of the best kinds of products to promote as an affiliate.
In addition to using digital products which offer the highest levels of commissions, (40-50%), you should also use membership or software products. These kinds of products offer ongoing income from recurring payments.
Purchase A Lifestyle Business
You’re looking for a lifestyle business for sale, right? So what exactly do you get by purchasing a real lifestyle business?
Many may be put off purchasing an existing “franchise” business because they don’t know the people selling it. But it’s far easier than trying to do all the work yourself, even if you know what you’re doing. For example could you build a:
- Community of online entrepreneurs all helping each other succeed?
- An online resource with webinars and seminars offering training and education for online business owners?
- Software and digital products which you can use straight away to start earning from international sales?
- Membership products which offer a recurring income and ongoing value for its members?
- A range of high ticket items which allow for use of scalable marketing strategies?
